Our bird homes have been designed to provide a decorative addition to your garden whilst encouraging and supporting British wildlife. Over 60 species of birds found in Britain are known to have used bird boxes to supplement their natural nesting places. Gardens can provide ideal sources of food but there may not be anywhere to nest, so putting up a bird home can be the ideal solution. Our standard sized boxes have approximately a 38mm diameter hole, which is suitable for many species, including the declining sparrows.
We make 2 types of bird homes. The Newton Bird Box can be fixed to a structure (ie. wall, fence or tree), and the Loxley Bird Box can be either suspended from a sturdy branch or fixed to a structure.
The best spot for siting your new home is between north and east to avoid the worst of the weather and should be fixed above 2.5 metres high. There is a metal fixing on the back which will enable the box to hang on a nail or screw. Alternatively you can suspend the bird home from some wire or rope and hang it from a sturdy branch – ideally the tree should be well established.
We hope you enjoy your Groovy Garden Company bird home and the wildlife it brings you.
