Our Groovy Bat Boxes are made totally from recycled wood. They should, ideally be placed at least four metres above the ground and sheltered from strong winds and exposed to the sun for just part of the day, usually South or South West, and away from any unnatural bright lights, e.g porch and security lights.

Some bats use hedgerow or the tree line for navigation, if it’s possible to put the box near these features it may help the bats to find the box. Most bats will choose homes within a short distance of water and in greater areas of diverse habitat, especially where there is a mixture of varied agricultural use and natural vegetation.

Bat Boxes can be installed any time of the year, but they are more likely to be used during their first summer if installed before the bats return in the spring. Bats need time to find and explore new homes and it may be several months before the boxes are used, however once the bats find a place they want to live they can return over and over again.
